EDGE
In short, EDGE is a technology that increases data rates. In the world of abbreviations, EDGE is also known as (E)GPRS when it is used to enhance GPRS networks.

In practice, this means faster data when operating in faster networks And more practically still, this means that you can enjoy more versatile services and communication using your Nokia 6220. With EDGE/GPRS and high-speed data connectivity, it gives you a faster, more effective way to browse and to send and receive e-mails, multimedia messages, photographs, even video clips. In EDGE packet transmission networks, you can connect at up to 118.4 kilobits per second, giving you a connection that's more than twice as faste as a conventional GPRS connectivity.

However, this does not mean that you should worry about being in an (E)GPRS area or not. Your Nokia 6220 can tell by itself. If (E)GPRS is not available, it uses the GPRS connections.
