In this section, you'll find
some general tips for using the Nokia 6170 phone.
Shortcuts in Standby
Mode
To access the list of
dialed numbers, press the left selection key
once. Scroll to the number or name that you want,
and press
to call the number.
To call your voice mailbox
when you have saved your voice mailbox number in
the phone, press and hold .
To make a connection to
a browser service, press and hold .
To open the push to talk
Group list, press the scroll key right.
To find a contact name,
press the scroll key down.
To start writing text
messages quickly, press the scroll key left.
To open the camera viewfinder
in standard photo view, press the scroll key up.
To quickly change the
camera mode, for example video, press and hold the
scroll key left or the scroll key right.
To change the profile,
open the list of profiles and scroll to the desired
profile by briefly pressing the power key. To activate
the profile, press and hold the power key.
Keyguard
The keyguard disables
the keys to prevent the keys being accidentally pressed,
for example, when the phone is in your pocket or handbag.
To lock
the keypad in standby mode, press Menu and
within 1.5 seconds. The keyguard is not activated
when you close the fold.
To unlock
the keypad, open the fold, press Unlock and
within 1.5 seconds.
To answer
a call when the keyguard is on, open the fold, or
press .
During a
call, the phone can be operated normally. When you
end or reject the call, the keyguard will automatically
be on again.
Create personal shortcuts
to your most-used functions
To select a function
for the right selection key and add voice commands
for some functions, press Menu,
and select Settings,
and Personal shortcuts.
Select the right selection
key to set a function for the right selection key.
Scroll to a function and select it.
Select Voice commands
and a command folder. Select the function to which
you want to add a voice command, and press Add.
You can add voice commands for a certain numbers
of functions.
Help texts
Get information about the
menu functions by activating help texts: press Menu
and select Settings,
Phone settings
and Help text activation.
Now, when you scroll through the menus a short description
of the currently selected function appears on the
display after few seconds.
Auto-updating the time
You can set the phone to automatically
update the time and date according to the current
time zone: press Menu
and select Settings,
Time and date settings
and Auto-update of
date & time.
Convert currency
The calculator is very handy
for currency conversions, too.
Open the calculator by
pressing Menu,
and then select Organiser,
and Calculator.
To save the exchange rate,
press Options
and select Exchange
rate.
To perform the currency
conversion, key in the amount to be converted, select
the option In domestic
or In foreign.
Note that you can create
a shortcut to the calculator to access it quicker.
