In this section we give you some practical tips on getting the
most from your Nokia 2300 phone in everyday use.
Shortcuts
Quick search for a name in Contacts
Press in standby mode, key in the first letter of the name. Scroll with or to find the name you want.
To set the predictive text input on or off when writing text
Press twice.
Access the menu functions using shortcuts
The menus, submenus and setting options are numbered. These numbers are called shortcut numbers. In standby mode, press Menu, and within three seconds, key in the shortcut number of the menu you want to access. Repeat this for submenus. Note that the shortcut number for Messages is 01.
To activate a profile quickly in standby mode or during a call
Press the key quickly, scroll to the desired profile, and press OK.
General
Built-in antenna
Your phone has a built-in antenna. As with any other radio-transmitting device, do not touch the antenna unnecessarily when the phone is switched on.
Network Services
The wireless phone described in this guide is approved for use
on the EGSM 900 and GSM 1800 networks. Dual-band is a network
dependent feature. Check with your local service provider to
see if you can subscribe to and use this
feature.
A number of features included in this guide are called Network Services. These are special services you arrange through your wireless service provider. Before you can take advantage of any of these Network Services, you must subscribe to them through your service provider and obtain instructions for their use from your service provider.
Note: Some networks may not support all language-dependent characters and/or services.
Calling
Speed dialing
Speed dial the number to make a phone call or send a message in the following ways:
- Press the corresponding number key and then press Call, or
- If Speed dials is set to "on", press and hold the corresponding number key until the call or the message editor is started.
In-call operations
Depending on the phone call, some of the following operations can be performed during a call by pressing and then Options: Mute or Unmute, Hold or Unhold, Answer, Reject, Menu, Loudspeaker or Handset, and Contacts, and the following network services can also be used: New call, End all calls, Send DTMF, Swap, and End call.
Call divert
You can divert your incoming calls to your voice mailbox or some other phone number (network service). To divert calls: press Menu, and select Settings, Call settings and Call divert.
Support for call handling
Adjust the following call settings to advance call handling:
Press Menu, and select Settings, Call settings and
- Automatic redial to set your phone to make up to ten attempts to connect the call after an unsuccessful call attempt.
- Call waiting service to turn the network notification of a new incoming call on or off while you have a call in progress (network service).
- In-call timer to turn the display of the call time on or off while calling.
- Send my caller identity to set your phone number to be displayed to (On) or hidden from (Off) the person you are calling (network service). When you select Preset, the setting agreed with your service provider is used.
Messaging
Templates
Create your messages faster with templates. You can use the preset messages (’templates’) or you can edit an existing template to create a new template. Press Menu, and select Messages, and then Templates to use the templates.
Smileys
You can edit and store the smileys such as ":-)", and use them in compiling messages. Press Menu, and select Messages, and then Smileys.
Sending options for SMS messages
There are several options to choose for sending an SMS message,
e.g. send the message later or send the message to several people.
When you have keyed in the message, select Sending
opts.
Smaller or larger fonts?
When writing a message, you can choose between smaller or larger fonts. Press Options, and scroll to Small fonts (or Large fonts) and press Select.
Multi-part text messages
The Nokia 2300 allows you to write a message that is up to several
times the limit of an ordinary message.
You can write and send multi-part text messages (network service).
Sending multi-part messages may affect the invoicing for the message. If
you use special (Unicode) characters, more parts may be needed for the message
than would otherwise be required. Note that predictive text input may use
Unicode characters. Furthermore, you can view the number of SMS messages
sent from your phone with the Message
counter.
Daily help
Wake up with your favorite music
Press Menu, and select Alarm clock, and select Alarm tone to select the radio. The phone uses the latest channel you listened to as an alarm tone via loudspeaker.
Loud, silent or just discreet?
Are you often outdoors or in a noisy environment? Do you often miss phone calls because you did not hear the ringing tone? Go to Profiles and select Loud – it may help. You can even personalize the profile – perhaps you’d prefer a particularly noisy ringing tone?
Message as a reminder
Did you get a message about an important meeting? Set it as a reminder. When reading the message, press Options and select As reminder. Select Alarm on or Alarm off as you please.
Fun features
Save radio channels quickly
To quickly save the channel in a location 1 to 9, press and hold the corresponding number key, then key in the name of the channel and press OK.
