AMR
Adaptive Multirate audio format. The Nokia 6650 phone supports AMR audio format for encoding and decoding.

Bluetooth
Bluetooth enables cost-free connections between the Nokia 6650 phone and compatible devices within a range of 10 meters. Using the Bluetooth connection, you can synchronize the phone book and calendar information or transfer other data between your phone and a compatible PC. The phone also serves as a wireless modem allowing laptop users to access the Internet and handle email when on the move. The Nokia 6650 phone also supports wireless audio based on Bluetooth, allowing users to enjoy the freedom of being truly wireless with Nokia Bluetooth audio accessories.

CSD
Circuit Switched data. Data transmitted over a dedicated (although usually virtual) channel. The destination address is implicitly defined by the (virtual) circuit that is selected.

Digital signature
Digital signature is the electronic equivalent of signing a receipt and is intended to replace the required visual check of ID cards, hand-written signatures, and paper receipts. Digital signature technology can fulfill the requirements of authentication and key non-repudiation conditions in establishing legally binding commercial transactions. Mobile wallets, used in combination with digital signatures, not only greatly improve the security of mobile transactions, but are also convenient and easy to use.

DRM
Digital Rights Management. The Nokia 6650 phone implements limited copyright support with closed content types and OMA Forward Lock. This means that the forwarding of messages that contain certain MIME-types is blocked. Closed content type refers to SP-MIDIs, OTA ringing tones and Java applets. E.g. if you download a Java applet (e.g. game), you can't forward it to another person. OMA Forward Lock refers to images, 3GP files, MIDI and AMR. It means that some of these are blocked, e.g. you can forward your own pictures, but some of the pictures you download via WAP might be locked.

Downlink
Downlink is a term used when talking about data transfer speed. In this context it means the situation when the user is receiving data into the phone.

HSCSD
High-Speed Circuit Switched Data. The most important feature of this technology is the increased speed. This makes connection times shorter and the use of current applications more convenient and faster. Data connections can be up to four times faster than earlier, which means that applications such as mobile navigation services using maps and graphics become more attractive.

As HSCSD is 'circuit switched', it is more suited to applications such as video conferencing and multimedia than applications that send data in bursts such as e-mail. HSCSD allows wireless data to be transmitted at 43.2 kilobits per second over GSM networks. This is comparable to the transmission rates of ordinary modems via fixed telephone networks today.

MIDI
The MIDI (Musical Instrument Digital Interface) is used to synthesize instrument sounds. With the Nokia 6650 phone you can play 24 instruments simultaneously.

MIDP
The Mobile Information Device Profile is an open standardized Java platform on which Java applications can run. It is part of J2ME - Java 2 Micro Edition. The Nokia 6650 phone supports standard MIDP Java 1.0.

Mobile Commerce
Mobile commerce is creating entirely new opportunities both for mobile phones and services such as banking, payment, and ticketing. Mobile commerce means transactions using a wireless device and data connection, which result in the transfer of value in exchange for information, services, or goods.

Multitasking
Multitasking means that you are able to perform several tasks at the same time. In UMTS networks you are able to use MMS, WAP, PC dial-up or MIDP Java over GPRS during a voice call. So you can send an MMS while you are talking and the message is sent immediately during the voice call. Also you can continue using WAP or PC dial-up when you receive a voice call. The Nokia 6650 phone supports one PDP (Profile Data Protocol) context simultaneously.

When you are operating in the GSM system and you receive a voice call during WAP or PC dial-up, the GPRS connection will be suspended (data transmission on hold). If you try to send an MMS during a voice call in the GSM system, the message will be queued in the Outbox and it will be sent when you end the voice call.

PIM
Personal information management. PIM covers the features in the phone that help you manage your time and contacts: phone book, calendar, to-do list etc.

Shared Memory
Shared memory means that the number of total entries depends on the amount of content/information for each entry. In other words, the more content you have per entry, the fewer entries you can have (e.g. several numbers under one name in the phone book means fewer phone book entries in total).

SubQCIF
The resolution of video clips in the Nokia 6650 phone is subQCIF (128x96).

UMTS
Universal Mobile Telecommunication System, the European 3rd generation mobile system based on WCDMA and standardized by European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI).

Uplink
Uplink is a term used when talking about data transfer speed. In this context it means the situation when the user is uploading data from the phone.

USB
Universal Serial Port. The Nokia 6650 phone supports USB connectivity to PC according to USB 1.1/2.0 specifications.

VGA
The VGA camera produces photos with the 640 x 480 resolution.

Wallet
In the phone's Wallet menu you can save personal information, such as credit card numbers, for paying for purchases with your phone at WAP sites supporting this function.

WCDMA
Wideband Code Division Multiple Access. A network that uses 3G technology.

WIM
Wireless Identification Module. The Nokia 6650 phone supports security module (WIM) for digital signatures. The digital signature enables non-repudiated payments. The security module functions can be used with a WIM-enabled SIM card. To order such a card, please contact your wireless network provider.

VCard
With vCard support it is possible to automatically save contact information such as a business card listed on a WAP site to the phone's memory.

vCal
vCal support allows you to save a calendar appointment from a WAP site to the phone's calendar.

WTAI
Wireless Telephony Application Interface. The Nokia 6650 phone incorporates WTAI Public Library, which enables you to make a phone call from a WAP site. With this application, it is no longer necessary to terminate a WAP session to make a phone call. Instead you can temporarily interrupt it to make the call, after which you automatically return to the site, for example when browsing a car rental site to reserve a car.
