1. INTRODUCTION

This document provides information to help you use the Nokia 
Configuration Tool.

It deals with last-minute additions and changes to the user
documentation, compatibility issues, and possible problems. 

The Nokia Configuration Tool can currently only be used with the Nokia 9300,
Nokia 9300i, Nokia 9500 Communicator and Nokia E60.

3. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS

To install and use the Nokia Configuration Tool, you need the following:

·         A compatible Nokia device

·         A PC (personal computer) with Windows XP™ or Windows 2000™ operating system (SP2 or newer)

·         Minimum display resolution of 1024 x 768 pixels

·         At least 250 MB of free disk space

·         Nokia PC Suite 6.7 or a later version

·         Internet Explorer 5.0 or later (for Nokia Configuration Tool help)

·         For connectivity, a USB connection port on your PC and a Nokia DKU-2 Connectivity Cable

Only operating systems that have been preinstalled by an original 
equipment manufacturer (OEM) are supported.

4. SECURITY REQUIREMENTS

The Nokia Configuration Tool does not encrypt any information or settings that are saved and stored on your PC. To encrypt information and settings that are saved and stored on your PC while working with the Nokia Configuration Tool, you must use the standard encryption program on your PC. For more information about encryption, see the user guide of your PC.

5. COMPATIBILITY NOTES

5.1 Phone hardware/software

The Nokia Configuration Tool is intended to be used with the Nokia 9300, Nokia 9300i, Nokia 9500 Communicator, or Nokia E60, and a cable (DKU-2) connection. 

It is not recommended that you send or import a profile with the Nokia Configuration Tool while using other Nokia PC Suite applications.

The Nokia Configuration Tool is fully functional only after you have connected the Nokia 9300, Nokia 9300i, or Nokia 9500 Communicator to the PC and have selected USB (Universal Serial Bus) as the connection method in the Connection Manager application.

Some features are not supported in the phone software 4.xx or earlier.

5.2 Installation

You must have a compatible Nokia PC Suite installed on your PC before you can install the Nokia Configuration Tool.

6. LAST-MINUTE ADDITIONS AND CHANGES TO THE USER DOCUMENTATION


This chapter lists a few problems common to E-series devices.

6.1 All settings:

- Avoid € characters for all settings because it can causes some problems.

6.2 Email:

- Make sure that a device includes no more than five mailboxes before a send operation. Otherwise problems may occur during both the sending and importing operation.

6.3 Data call:

- Some of the "Max. data speed:" data is no longer correct on the Nokia Configuration Tool after the importing process.

6.4 WLAN:

- The UI of Nokia Configuration Tool appears as "Easy WLAN". If you modify some of the settings, it may cause major problems for your device.
- Some security mode selection is not updated to your device.
- If you create WLAN group with Nokia Configuration Tool and select "Open network" to WLAN security mode, Nokia Configuration Tool gets error message about this while a sending process. However, all settings of WLAN group have been sent to a device.
- If you use 802.1x as WLAN security mode and you import data from a device, empty selection may appear on NCT's UI.
- If you use Pre-shared key and you import data from a device, you cannot get the key from a device.
- If "Open network" has been selected in the WLAN settings, an error is displayed in the Sending dialog of the Nokia Configuration Tool during the sending operation.

6.5 SIP settings:

- There is "Registrar server address" field on the Edit Configuration dialog and its data is not retrieved during the import process.
- Sending to a device may fail in some combinations.

6.6 Device manager:

- If you configure more than one Device manager setting at the time, the port numbers may cause problems.
- If you send Bluetooth as the bearer type, Bluetooth changes to the Internet bearer type after the Nokia Configuration Tool sending operation.

6.7 Sync:

- The host address produces incorrect information after the Nokia Configuration Tool's sending operation. The address plus ":80" becomes the host address in the "Host address" field of a device.

- If you send the Sync profile's applications to a device, a "Local database" error is displayed in the Sending dialog of the Nokia Configuration Tool. Despite the error message, the applications are correctly sent to the device.

6.8 VoIP profile:

- You can add to a VoIP profile only those SIP profiles that use the same public username. If you add a public username to a SIP profile and then create a VoIP profile, you can use in the VoIP profile only those SIP profiles that have the same public username."

General issues:

- If you encounter any problems while removing old version of Nokia Configuration Tool it is recommended to use the Nokia Configuration Tool installation package to removing old version of Nokia Configuration Tool.

- If you use the Edit Online mode to update settings to a device, some combinations may cause problems. For example, if you update a new WLAN group without proxy settings, your WLAN group does not work correctly after the update, because of the default proxy settings.

- The IPv6 settings have some problems: sending and updating these settings does not always work correctly.

7. WHAT'S NEW IN NOKIA CONFIGURATION TOOL 2.0

7.1 Support for the Nokia E60 phone

Support for the Nokia E60 is included.

7.2 Advanced search

Nokia Configuration Tool can search specific profiles and devices. A search is done according to text that can be specified by user. This functionality can be launched from the Tools menu.

7.3 Contact creation

It is possible to create contacts to the profile. These contacts are stored to the PC in VCF format.
